He said that Tuesday’s debate of the two presidential candidates in the CSSD senators’ club could not replace a classical televised duel.
This is the second letter Paroubek sent to Klaus this week. The first one concerned the church property restitution.
Previously, Klaus rejected a public Czech Television’s (CT) offer to participate in a televised debate with Svejnar before the elections.
“I have recently come across a similar position when I learnt from the press that Russian official presidential candidate Dmitry Medvedev acted similarly,” Paroubek said in his letter.

Disappointment was also voiced by Michal Hasek, chairman of the CSSD deputies’ group.
The court decision contradicts its earlier finding that banned the amendments to unrelated bills, Filip said.
The rejection of the first part of the proposal has markedly reduced the probability that the court would abolish the remaining two parts, that is changes in the health care and social spheres for procedural reasons.
The court will not again look into the method of discussion on and passing of the whole reform bill in the following debate.
The public finance reform, one of the major projects of the centre-right government of Mirek Topolanek (senior Civic Democrats, ODS), took effect on January 1.

The secret ballot will be ensured by the absence of any other person in the voting room but lawmakers when they will cast their ballot papers, he said.
However, the commission has not decided on whether the vote will be open or secret. The decision should be made by the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate on February 8, before the start of presidential elections at the two parliamentary houses’ joint session.
“The commission agreed unanimously on the principle of real secrecy of the secret ballot and will do everything for this,” Tluchor said.
He admitted that this would protract the voting.

Havel can decide himself whether he will leave the hospital on Friday or Saturday, they said.
IKEM deputy director Michael Zelizko told that Havel’s heart rhythm was stable now and his lung problems had receded.
The planned heart examinations have also been satisfactory and the doctors thus believe that Havel can be released from the hospital at the end of the week, he said.
IKEM will issue an official report on Havel’s condition, Zelizko added.
Havel will continue rehabilitation at home that will last, according to the doctors’ estimates, for about seven days.
Doctors believe Havel’s big workload had contributed to the worsening of his health.

The reasoned opinion is the second of three stages of procedure over violation of EU regulations.
Unless the situation improves, the European Commission will take the matter to the court and the Czech Republic could eventually be fined.
The European Commission criticises Prague, for instance, for not having the definition of various kinds of discrimination included in its legislation.
Directive 2007/78/EC bans discrimination on grounds of religion, faith, age, handicap, sexual orientation, and others.
It was approved in 2000 and the countries that were admitted to the EU in 2004, including the Czech Republic, should have transposed it in their legislation as from May 1, 2004.
