What do you think happens when a black cat crosses the path of a Swiss,Austrian, German or Czech? The plans should respect the skyline of the historical core of Prague, experts from the World Heritage Committee said.

Developers are preparing the construction of new high-rise buildings at Prague’s Pankrac neighbourhood. Local civic groups are protesting against the investor’s idea.

The plan is also rejected by the International Council on Monuments and Sites, an advisory body of the UNESCO committee.

On the other hand, the Prague town hall conservationists and the Prague branch of the National Heritage Institute have issued positive opinions.

Activists from the extra-parliamentary Workers’ Party (DS) and National Corporativism criticised the planned finance reforms and individual ministers.

There were no incidents during the 30-minute rally.

DS leader Tomas Vandas called the government a clique of “collaborationists and thieves” and DS deputy chairman Jiri Stepanek criticised it for lack of patriotism.

Stepanek said the government plans to curb the public debt amounted to a “reform in the gangster style.”

“Topolanek is more interested in young girls than in the work. Besides, he speaks vulgarly,” Stepanek said.

Compared with incomes of other politicians, the salary of the head of state is not subject to taxes, MfD writes.

“It is one of the things that are within the proposal. We think that all incomes should be subjected to the same tax system. There is no reason to have any exceptions,” Vlastimil Tlusty, a former finance minister and an ODS deputy, told the paper.

MfD writes that president’s salary is 204,700 crowns a month, with a monthly special bonus of 190,500 crowns. In total, the income of the head of state is 395,200 crowns a month that are not taxed.

If the proposal were accepted, the head of state would receive some 320,100 crowns a month, the daily writes.

The abolition of administrative barriers will also apply to Bulgaria, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, and Slovenia.

The ten new countries concerned entered the EU in 2004 and this year.

The Danish government has not yet set an exact date of lifting the restrictions by which it will join a majority of the “old” EU member countries.

The citizens of the ten new countries concerned can already now work without any permit in Britain, Greece, Finland, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Sweden.

Besides Denmark, various types of restrictions are still in force in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany and Luxembourg.

Ir said it wants the case to be investigated, the culprits punished and the monument brought back to its original shape.

According to it, the Czech ambassador to Russia, Miroslav Kostelka, has expressed regret at the incident.

Kostelka admitted that the Brno monument, like similar monuments in other Czech towns liberated by the Red Army in 1945, is protected by inter-government agreements and the Czech Republic is bound to protect them, the embassy says.
